About us
Jamie Barclay
Registered Breeder with the Working Kelpie Council of Australia
Born and bred on the land, Jamie has relied on Working Dogs from an early age. Beginning his career as a shearer he recovered from a debilitating injury to continue his rural career with a role in abattoir stock management and then onto working manager roles in mixed farming enterprises. He also operates Barclay Livestock Management Services, a rural contracting business servicing the Central West of NSW.
The dogs have developed with him through careful selection of bloodlines.
Jamie has worked in many different terrains and climates and therefore the dogs have had to be true all-rounders and resilient to keep up with his workload. As a result the bloodlines that have emerged produce big, strong dogs with plenty of force when needed and intelligence on stock to suit the quieter stock management techniques when required.
Jamie's dogs are larger than most Kelpies and this allows them to work all day when needed and face the most stubborn Ram or Bull. They are successful in trials and pre drought Jamie did compete with success.
While the trial arena is a good way to enjoy the working dogs and their skills, Jamie's breeding program has focused on the day to day work ethic of the Kelpie. As a working farm manager his priority is getting the job done in the most effective way possible. The dogs have to fill the race without injury to the sheep and in the most time effective way. A paddock needs to be clean when the gate is shut and the cattle moved without strays being left behind because they had a bit of attitude.
Jamie's passion is the bloodline and how a pedigree can be enhanced to breed the ultimate working dog. Along with detailed research and careful selection of Sires and Dams, Jamie has also employed Artificial Insemination technologies to blend the best of the old with the best of the new. Always striving to improve, not only his dogs, but the breed in general to preserve the Working Kelpie's reputation as being the most versatile working dog breed.
Jamie has recently had his Working Kelpie Council Membership elevated and been granted Governing Membership which is a result of the last fifteen years of breeding Kelpies that abide by the rules and regulations as set out by the Working Kelpie Council.
Jamie is married with three children, 4 horses, 1 Jack Russell, 2 Cats and at least 30 dogs at any one time, life is never boring.

The Barclays Kelpie Stud is located at Canowindra which is in the Central West of NSW between Cowra and Orange.
As well as managing a mixed farming operation, we operate a farm contracting business, Barclay Livestock Management Services, which provides mobile crutching, shearing, mustering and other livestock related rural services.
With this business we service the greater Central West of NSW and Southern Tablelands areas. You will no doubt come across a Barclays Kelpie from time to time.
We welcome visitors to the stud and run regular training and demonstration days or one on one training sessions.
